Warren Destroyed by her Lies;
Bernie Big Winner
of White Candidates Debate
January 14, 2020. Des Moines, Iowa. Elizabeth Warren squirmed and then sidestepped in her answer after it was proven she had lied about Bernie Sanders saying a woman couldn’t be President. The lie had been falsely reported by CNN, the debate host. After the proof that Warren had lied was presented, CNN doubled up on the lie, repeating it in the debate as Warren was asked what her response the purported statement by Bernie had been. The response of the public translated into dollars. Warren donors demanded refunds as Bernie donations surged during the debate. Pro-War CNN spokespersons tried to hide Warren's dramatic loss with spin while social media was filled with comments and laughter about Warren's self-destruction.
Bernie has spoken in support of having a woman President for decades. In 2015, he actually encouraged Elizzbeth Warren to run for President against Hillary. When Warren had decided against running that year, Bernie entered the race. Later he campaigned for Hillary Clinton after the 2016 Democratic National Convention. Tulsi Gabbard has talked about Bernie’s support for her own candidacy for President. So when Warren lied about Bernie supposedly telling her a woman could not be President, there were decades of statements and actions by Bernie that contradicted the lie. In other words, Warren’s lies, repeated in her emails to her supporters and by CNN, were whoppers.
In responding to the evidence of the falsity of her claims, Warren again lied (saying she disagreed with Bernie) and then diverted the subject, essentially saying that it was more difficult for a man than a woman to beat a Republican incumbent. She forgot her math book again, as she had done in the last debate, this time claiming that the only ones on stage who had defeated incumbent Republicans in the last thirty years were women. In November of 1990, Bernie defeated a Republican incumbent. This is January of 2020: ten months less than 30 years later.
On stage, Bernie was the only candidate who honestly stood up for workers’ rights and for the environment. To a lesser extent, Tom Steyer also did. The new NAFTA (USMCA or the United States Mexico Canada Agreement) will not bring even one job back to the USA but will make it easier for Mexican workers to work in Mexico under contracts that have already cost and will continue to cost Americans their jobs. It contains no environmental regulations. American workers and environmentalists, overall, oppose this agreement. Certain union bosses who have made deals with corporate bosses approve of it. (See Howard Zinn’s People’s History of the United States to learn more about the unholy alliances between AFL-CIO bosses and corporate executives to the detriment of union members.) Bernie was the only incumbent on stage to say he would oppose this anti-environmental/ anti-labor agreement. Warren, Pete Buttigieg and Amy Klobuchar all said they would vote for the anti-environmental/anti-labor agreement. Tom Steyer also came out in opposition to the new NAFTA, saying he would only support pro-environmental agreements.
Joe Biden also exhibited some memory problems, forgetting that Barack Obama was not in Congress in 2002 and also forgetting his own role in the genocide the U.S. created in Libya and his past support for environment-gutting trade agreements. History works against him and it might be natural for someone to want to forget the kind of role he played in wars and trade agreements. Biden’s one act that continues to impress those who remember his past involved his take-down of former Supreme Court nominee Robert Bork over Bork’s refusal to support the right to privacy enunciated in Griswold v Connecticut. However, that one act of leadership on his part has not come up in any of the debates.

In many ways, the biggest winner of the debate was Tulsi Gabbard, the only woman of color running for President. She spent the day campaigning in New Hampshire, which she hopes to win. New Hampshire is where Bill Clinton got his name of “The Comeback Kid,” going from New Hampshire on to become President. Many who chose not to watch the debate, instead took to the Internet to watch an interview Tulsi did along with Dennis Kucinich, who has endorsed her.
Focusing on New Hampshire is a risky move, but nothing about Tulsi’s campaign is particularly orthodox. As the debate excluded all candidates of color, she did not even try to cross a racially-biased line that was drawn by questionable DNC selection techniques. In New Hampshire, Tulsi is ahead of the other candidate of color Andrew Yang. While Tulsi campaigned in the first primary state, it was Bernie who spoke out in the debate for the positions he and Tulsi jointly hold. CNN pretended that Warren has not backtracked on Medicare for All and on making college affordable to the majority of Americans, but those who have seen Warren’s flip-flopping positions are aware that Warren is on a different page than Bernie and Tulsi.
Though the DNC only allowed white candidates to participate in the January Debate, had Bernie not been there, the pro-war crowd would have had the stage and the national audience to themselves. Somebody had to be there to speak for the people and the candidates who were discriminated against in the selection process. Against warmongering candidates and a hosting panel of paid warmongers, Bernie won this debate by a landslide, leaving the others on stage in the dust. If there was a second on stage, it was Tom Steyer, the other candidates who was willing to stand up for the environment.
Bernie’s closing argument, unlike those of the other candidates who focused on themselves, was about putting the needs of the American people first. If people just tuned in for the end, it was obvious Bernie was the only candidate on that stage on their side. From the more accurate polls, it appears that Bernie Sanders will win Iowa. What happens in November depends on how Bernie and Tulsi are treated at the July 2020 Democratic National Convention in Milwaukee.
