Tulsi and Bernie Landslide to Victory in First Two Debates
June 27, 2019. Miami, Florida. Bernie was clear victor in Debate Number Two. This followed a landslide debate victory for Tulsi Gabbard as proven by multiple polls and Google Search Trends.
In the second debate night or rather night of the second half of the debate, Bernie stayed on purpose in spite of attempts of hosts to undercut Bernie on Medicare for All and College for All. The first question against Bernie was an attack question followed by more attack questions designed to make him sound like he was taxing people more for Medicare for All and College for All. Bernie again declared that health care is a human right. He stated that education is the future for this country and that we must make college free and eliminate student debt by a tax on Wall Street. He pointed out that the overall costs to Americans would be less than they are currently paying. The hosts clearly did not like that answer and it was clear they opposed Medicare for All. So did some of the other debaters.
In his first answer, Bernie pointed out that there are half a million Americans sleeping in the streets. The only other Presidential candidate who has shown concern for the homeless is Tulsi Gabbard, who has visited the homeless while campaigning and who wants to fund housing as a human rights with money saved from ending the wars.
Tulsi and the debaters from the first night were not part of the second debate night. All debaters in the second debate other than Bernie made serious gaffs. Joe Biden got nailed for his previous support for racist positons. Kamala let him have it like the tough prosecutor she is. Later Joe reacted by saying he was a public defender, not a prosecutor.
Kamala Harris was doing great in the debate until she made a gaff by negatively mentioning Putin and Kim Jong Un. As a favor to Kamala who impressed The Justice Gazette with her refusal to seek the death penalty in the David Hill case, we’ll offer a little advice. America is tired of hearing about Putin and Russiagate. Only a quarter of Americans are Democrats and of those, less than a quarter want to hear another word about Russiagate. That’s not enough support for that issue (outside of establishment circles) to win a pizza at a pizza parlor. America doesn’t want war with Russia or North Korea. If Kamala wants to do well, she needs to avoid mentioning Putin during the rest of the election season. She did herself one favor by not mentioning truancy, an issue that has hurt her among progressives. More than a million children, often from liberal households, in her state are being homeschooled. Truancy discussions do not sit well with the millions of voters associated with homeschooling.
Kamala wasn’t the only one who made a gaff by mentioning Russia but the other candidates who made bloopers debated so poorly with some attacking Medicare for All and Hickenlooper attacking socialism that they don’t really have a chance of getting enough votes to become President. Hickenlooper was also booed at the California Democratic Convention.
More than one candidate came out in support of NATO, which a majority of Democrats would like to see America withdraw from. Kamala Harris, Joe Biden and Michael Stalwell all spoke of support for NATO. Stalwell was the worst, stating, “My first act in foreign policy we are breaking up with Russia and making up with NATO”. That was not a smart position for anyone running for President in 2020. He might want to consider withdrawing from the race.
Kirsten Gilibrand let everyone know she is a woman. People got that. If there was any uncertainty before, she cleared it up. She seemed to be a one issue candidate. While debate hosts attacked Bernie on his positions, Kirsten was not attacked on her conservative Congressional record which she was pretending was progressive.
Pete Buttigieg was on the hot seat due to all the racist police violence in his city. Stalwell’s best line was that Buttigieg should fire South Bend’s police chief.
Andrew Yang was cheated on time, getting one-fifth of the time allotted to Biden. However, on the Jimmy Dore show, Yang lost the senior vote. For many, maybe most, seniors, the Universal Basic Income Yang is proposing would provide one-half to one-third of their Social Security payments. If seniors are forced to choose between the two, no senior would choose the basic income—unless they are not eligible at all for Social Security. This means that everyone but seniors and the disabled would get a universal basic income, discriminating against the neediest sectors of the population. Seniors disproportionately vote. So Yang’s current plan is an election loser---especially among Democrats. He might be able to sell it to the Republicans.
From the debate, it is hoped that nobody but Kamala Harris went to law school. Oops. Biden went to law school but his excuse is he graduated in the bottom third of his class. Kamala was the only candidate in the second debate who did not jump in and misrepresent the Roe v Wade mantra. Roe v Wade is 2/3 anti-choice (only pro-choice for the first trimester). Subsequent legislation and cases have expanded the right to choose, but Roe continues to get credit for positions the case did not take.
By staying on message the entire evening, by standing firm against war on Iran and by making the strongest case for ending economic disparity,
Bernie Sanders proved himself to be the strongest candidate of the second debate night. This places Bernie Sanders and Tulsi Gabbard, the woman who gave up her DNC Vice Chairman position for Bernie, as the two front-runners going into the next set of debates.
