As Newsom turns L.A. into a War Zone, Protesters Call for Peace (videos)
June 5, 2020. Los Angeles. On Wednesday, June 3, between 30,000 and 50,000 peaceful protesters called for an end to police killings of Black and Brown civilians and for the resignation of Los Angeles District Attorney Jackie Lacey, who has refused to prosecuted cop killers her department.
From the 101 freeway past the Hall of Justice, the U.S. District Court and the City Hall, peace-loving people filled the streets and parks. Additional people peacefully marched through the streets of Los Angeles to show their opposition to the long tradition Los Angeles law enforcement has had of killing Black and Brown residents.
Well civilians came to the events that day in peace. Gun-toting L.A. police officers, L.A. Sheriff’s deputies and Gavin Newsom’s National Guard troops filled the sidewalks and fronts of buildings. their weapons were all loaded and ready to kill. The National Guard carried military grade M4 rifles and M500 shot guns. The armed government forces were not interested in protecting the peaceful people of Los Angeles from killers who had killed Angelinos in the past. Instead of watching other officers who had already engaged in acts of violence, Gavin's National Guard watched the peaceful unarmed protesters. When asked if he had shot any Californians, one National Guardsman stated that he had “no comment.” Most individuals, would say, “No,” to that if the answer were 'no."
At the rally in front of the Hall of Justice, family members spoke of relatives who had been run over or thrown in front of a train or shot by law enforcement officers. One mother described the horrific injuries to her son who was beaten to death in solitaire in the county jail while being supervised by sheriff deputies Los Angeles District Attorney Jackie Lacey’s refuses to prosecute. Sixteen year old Lexi Underwood spoke about how Jackie Lacey’s husband had pointed a gun at her mother’s face when the mother participated in a peaceful rally outside the District Attorney’s house. Imagine if someone the Sheriff wasn't protecting put a gun in an unarmed person's face. Of course, violent offenders tied to law enforcement are virtually never prosecuted in Los Angeles.
